Adolescence is characterised by a rapid rate of growth and development. During this period, the body develops in size, strength and reproductive capabilities, and the mind becomes capable of more abstract thinking. Social relationships move from being centred on the family to a wider horizon, and includes peers and other adults. Adolecence is the transition period when a person is no longer a child, but not yet an adult; and includes the decade of life from 10-19 years. This phase is characterised by acceleration of physical growth as well as psychological and behavioral changes; and hence, increased vulnerability to various physical and mental problems.
